Transportation

Travel with public transport between Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam Central station:

In the Dutch railway system, you can use your credit card or Dutch debit card as your transportation ticket: check-in by holding your card in front of the yellow NS-poles or railway gates, and do the same on the check-out. Dedicated OV-transport cards are sold as well with pre-charged travel budget. Single-way travel cost is EUR 16.40 from Schiphol airport to Rotterdam Central station. When using “Intercity direct” trains, which travel over the high-speed rail, an additional ‘supplemental’ fee of EUR 3.20 (“Toeslag”) is requested; you can get this supplemental fee by holding your card in front of the red pole in the railway station marked “Toeslag” (see right picture below). This supplemental fee procedure is in addition to the check-in/check-out procedure and has to be done only once at the beginning of your travel. This supplement is not necessary if you travel by normal trains and tracks, or by replacement-busses in case of train tracks works or interrupts
